Zelensky reacts again after the debate with Trump: I want the US to stand

After a heated debate with President Donald Trump at the White House, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a statement saying that despite everything, the US will continue to be Ukraine's permanent ally.

Zelensky also indicated what he wants before sitting down at the negotiating table with Russia.

The Ukrainian president says he is grateful to Donald Trump and the US Congress for their support, adding that America's aid has been "vital in helping us survive".

Touching on his "tough dialogue" with Trump, he says: " We need to be honest and direct with each other to truly understand our shared goals."

At the end of his statement, he emphasized that the US should stand more strongly on Ukraine's side, as without America's support, it will be much more difficult for Ukraine to achieve its goals.

"It is essential for us to have the support of President Trump. He wants to end the war, but no one wants peace more than we do. We are the ones living this war in Ukraine. It is a war for our freedom and survival," Zelensky's post says, among other things.

Zelenskyy also stressed that he is ready to sign the agreement on Ukrainian minerals with the United States, calling it an important step to provide security guarantees for his country.

"We want peace. That is why I came to the United States and visited President Trump. The agreement on minerals is just a first step towards security guarantees and closer ties to peace. Our situation is difficult, but we cannot stop fighting and not have guarantees that Putin will not return tomorrow," Zelensky wrote.

Full post by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

We are very grateful to the United States for all the support. I am grateful to President Trump, to Congress for their bipartisan support, and to the American people. Ukrainians have always appreciated this support, especially during these three years of total occupation.

America's assistance has been vital in helping us survive, and I want to acknowledge that. Despite the tough dialogue, we remain strategic partners. But we need to be honest and direct with each other to truly understand our shared goals.

It is essential for us to have the support of President Trump. He wants to end the war, but no one wants peace more than we do. We are the ones living this war in Ukraine. It is a war for our freedom and our survival.

As President Reagan once said, “Peace is not merely the absence of war.” We are talking about just and lasting peace – freedom, justice, and human rights for all. A ceasefire will not work with Putin. He has broken the ceasefire 25 times in the last ten years. A real peace is the only solution.

We are ready to sign the agreement on minerals and this will be the first step towards security guarantees. But this is not enough and we need more than that. A ceasefire without security guarantees is dangerous for Ukraine. We have been fighting for 3 years and the Ukrainian people must know that America is on our side.

I cannot change Ukraine's attitude towards Russia. The Russians are killing us. Russia is the enemy and this is the reality we face. Ukraine wants peace, but it must be a just and lasting peace. For this, we must be strong at the negotiating table. Peace can only come when we know that we have security guarantees, when our army is strong and our partners are with us.

We want peace. That is why I came to the United States and visited President Trump. The minerals agreement is just a first step towards security guarantees and closer peace. Our situation is difficult, but we cannot stop fighting and have no guarantee that Putin will not return tomorrow.

It will be difficult without US support. But we cannot lose our will, our freedom or our people. We have seen how the Russians came to our homes and killed many people. No one wants another wave of invasion. If we cannot be accepted into NATO, we need a clear structure of security guarantees from our allies in the US

Europe is prepared for unforeseen situations and to help finance our large military. We also need the US role in defining security guarantees – what kind, what volume and when. Once these guarantees are in place, we can talk to Russia, Europe and the US about diplomacy. The war alone is too long and we do not have enough weapons to completely remove them.

When someone talks about loss, every life matters. Russia invaded our homes, killed our people, and tried to wipe us out. This is not just about territories or numbers – it is about real life. This is what we all need to understand.

I want the US to stand stronger on our side. This is not just a war between our two countries; Russia brought this war to our territory and to our homes. They are wrong because they did not respect our territorial integrity.

All Ukrainians want to hear a strong US position from our side. It is understandable that the US may seek dialogue with Putin. But the US has always spoken of 'peace through strength'. And together we can take strong steps against Putin.

Our relationship with the American President is more than just two leaders; it is a historic and solid bond between our peoples. That is why I always begin with words of gratitude from our nation to the American nation.

"The American people helped save our people. Man and human rights come first. We are truly grateful. We only want strong relations with America, and I truly hope we will have them," Zelensky's statement read.
