White House press secretary Caroline Levitt told reporters that Trump will depart for Malaysia late Friday evening and then travel to South Korea, where he is scheduled to meet with Xi next Thursday.
The last known meeting between the two leaders took place at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan, on June 29, 2019. At the time, their talks focused on US-China trade relations and tensions over technology and tariff measures.
