Why are the US and the EU staying away from appointing the head of the police?
Edi Rama /

This is a situation that Rama wants to sell as "sovereignty", but it could bring not just a frost in the relationship, but a return of the distrust of the world's law enforcement agencies towards the Albanian police...

There is an important development in the process that the government has started to elect the new head of the State Police. Be it in the preliminary process of collecting files, be it in the criteria, be it in the interview procedures.

In this whole process, we must say that the presence of important international actors, Albania's allies, is rarely missing.

As is known, the police itself has a whole network of partner organizations that have been assisting it for years, starting from the Italian missions, those of the EU, Frontex, but most importantly the American partners of ICITAP and OBDAT.

So far we have not seen any presence, and it must be said that we are dealing with a clear distancing of the Western allies in this process. Which, if you follow the long-standing tradition, is clearly a new development.

A new development, which openly resembles a choice of Edi Rama and his people in the Ministry of the Interior, rather than a political stance of the West. So in other words, Edi Rama has given a political signal to tell the USA that the police and secret service is not theirs, but his.

History that has already been consolidated as a clear political position. which culminated with Gladys Nano, when he fired her with a ceremony, after a meeting of the latter with the US ambassador, Yuri Kim.

It was precisely this case that froze any relationship between senior police officers and American and European diplomats.

A development that was then deepened with the departure of Taulant Balla after his decoration by the US Department of State, or the failure to list a senior Interpol officer, to whom the Americans gave a high certificate.

This is a situation that Rama wants to sell as "sovereignty", but it could bring not just a frost in the relationship, but a return of the distrust of the world's law enforcement agencies towards the Albanian police.

Of course, this has an electoral goal for the gangs and the police to continue to be in partnership, and in all likelihood we will have bombastic reports after the election of the new director.

And it is not surprising, if precisely from this situation, Washington's open clash with Edi Rama can start. Who is trying to solve it with the rhetoric of the Bektashi state, to hide the frost and the blockade that the USA has put on it./ Pamphlet
