Euro touches the bottom

This Friday, the European currency registered the lowest value of its exchange in the Albanian market. Today, one euro is being exchanged for 100 lek, the lowest value ever recorded, causing it to depreciate by nearly 16% in two years.

According to the exchange rate of the Bank of Albania, traders buy the euro for 99 ALL and sell it for 100 ALL. The European currency continues to depreciate despite the fact that the Bank of Albania has intervened in the market by buying currency to stabilize it.

The institutions say that the reason for this devaluation of the euro is the high amount of currency in the market, mainly influenced by tourism, which reaches its peak in the month of August. Foreign investments also have an impact on this market, as well as money coming from informal sources.
