The price of oil in Albania is increasing again. During the last few days, a liter of diesel and a liter of gasoline are being sold at the limits of 200 lek, which is weighing on the citizens' pockets.
But how do experts explain this new increase in the price of oil in the country?
"In the last few days if we consider... our currency is depreciating, this should theoretically lead to a decrease in the price of oil, but the opposite happened. There is a risk that these companies are operating by finding a common language, avoiding competition and working as a single cartel by predetermining prices", said the economic expert, Klodian Muço.
A year ago, the government created the transparency board to keep the price of oil under control, but it has already ceased to function.
"Theoretically, the state, beyond the lack of a board, has institutions. The board did not do anything, it tried to maintain the profit margin of the company. However, we have competition institutions that must monitor the market and see where profits are being abused", said Muço.
The movement of the price on the stock exchange is one of the arguments used by oil traders in the country. But how much does this stand according to the expert?
"The reaction when prices on the stock market decrease is very lukewarm, because the companies justify it with the fact that we have money, but when prices on the stock market increase immediately, why don't they use the money to continue with that price? In fact, this is the abuse of traders and in this case state institutions should monitor the market", the expert emphasizes.
