In Albania, every day is an April Fool's Day
Tirana, April 1, 2025 – In a historic decision, the Council of Ministers announced today that April 1 will no longer be celebrated as April Fools' Day!
"We have outgrown the need for a special day. In Albania, every day is April Fool's Day," said an employee of the Ministry of Information, asking to remain anonymous for fear of being made director.
Foreign observers, enthusiastic about this development, welcomed the decision and emphasized that there are five big lies that have rendered April 1st invalid.
1. 24-hour water by 2017! A promise that was made at every rally, every studio and every neighborhood where the deserted millet vote was sought. Today in 2025, citizens have 24-hour water… but only on the mayors' Facebook and Instagram.
2. The Tirana-Durres Railway and the modern railway system! Promoted as the pearl of national transport.
Today, trains are still in the "PowerPoint" phase, while the most successful railway line is the one between promise and oblivion.
3. Incinerators – Three incinerators invisible to ordinary eyes, and to prosecutors, but very visible and functional for the state budget! According to the government, "Indeed (the incinerators) have not physically functioned, but they have successfully burned 108 million euros and any public sensitivity to the scandal"
4. Dignified pensions – A promise repeated with so much passion. Today, with 15 thousand lek, pensioners survive as part of an open sociological experiment on human resilience and the existence of God.
5. Abolition of VAT on food. Albania was expected to become the country with the lowest prices for food, but today the price in Albanian markets and supermarkets exceeds the prices in supermarkets in London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, etc.
Instead of a day of fun, Albania offers an "All-Inclusive" package for 364 days.
Others may laugh at April Fools' Day! We don't! There's no point in making fun of lies in a country where they are state policy, urban planning, national development strategy, and a way of life.
