Ben Blushi: Sami Frashëri in my life!

This novel, which shows how Albania could be in 2044, seems to have taken a little breath from the last pages of Sami Frashër's book with the title, "Albania what was, what is and what will be". Those who can't wait to burn me with the fires that I start, would rightly say that if my book predicts Albania very badly, Sami Frashëri, in his book, predicts it very well.

I have never understood why Sami Frashëri appears from time to time in my life. Sometimes it brings me luck, but sometimes it brings me trouble.

I graduated from the "Sami Frashëri" high school in Tirana. For four years, I haven't learned more than I have learned. I picked up most of my vices there from cigarettes, alcohol, gambling, girls and copies. There I realized that a large part of the subjects we did in school were useless and from then on I refused to learn things I didn't like. In general, "Sami Frashëri" taught me how not to study and still get good grades. This was a very widespread technique at the time, which I don't remember today, and if they would have sent me back to high school, I would probably have stayed. Although everyone says that the most important friendships in life are those made in high school, this is not true for me. Many of the friends I had then, I don't know where they are anymore, some I don't want to meet, some I don't remember at all, some are in emigration and some are in prison.

With Sami Frashëri's teachers, you could smoke a cigarette during recess, you could not study and be forgiven, you could be late and be accepted, you could jump off the wall and they pretended not to see, you could wear long hair and not They were waiting for them. They did everything well, except for teaching, not because they were not capable, but because the school, by the end of the 1980s, was outdated like everything else in Albania. Apart from one teacher who taught the military course and who was a mean-spirited cat who would pull your ear off and tell you off if you weren't convinced that you had the ability to kill with a Kalashnikov, all the other teachers were human. At that time, teachers were called friends, a title which I, due to my age, never deserved and therefore I don't know what kind of teacher I would have become if I had been my friend Beni myself. I graduated in language and literature and most likely I would have become a teacher in Beni, in the village of Iballe in Puka, where I was appointed and where I did not go, because luckily times changed. Now that I think about it, in the Sami Frashëri high school I learned one of the things that have been most valuable to me in life: to write quickly. During the drafting course, which at that time took place in two hours, I finished drafting in the first hour, because I couldn't wait for the second hour to drink cognac on Dibra Street, a few meters from the "Sami Frashëri" gymnasium, where I learned all the beautiful vices of life.

The second time, Sami Frashëri came into my life as a tern. After wandering around Tirana for a few weeks, I finally found the headquarters of the party I created in November 2016, on "Sami Frashëri" street, which serves to connect several things together, including the ring with the block, the Police Directorate with the Directorate of Customs and the Albanian porter Myslym Shyri, with the 28th American President Woodrow Wilson. The book was placed on the second floor in a building on this street, which as I said connects several things that are not connected and maybe that's why hundreds of people came there, some to connect, some to fill the boring afternoons, some to drink a free coffee and some to cure the first signs of depression that in recent years is very widespread in Tirana. If Libra's offices were not on "Sami Frashëri" street, but on a more modest street, named after a carpenter or a communist coachbuilder, I would have found it easier to get things done among the hundreds of people who believed that being equal, as I honestly promised you, means not making any decisions. With only six months of work, Libra collected 20,000 votes, but did not win a single mandate, and there I realized something I had not believed: the poor always vote for the rich, where Libra did not belong as the poorest and most robbed party sometimes. Although in those months I walked an average of 10 kilometers a day, losing several kilos, along with my mandate as a deputy, which puts me in the short history of Libra as the only person who lost something, in the end, as compensation, I gained two qualities which I did not have: the first to know madmen without speaking, and the second to manage them without meeting them. Apart from the majority of insane people, whom I ran for deputy to cure, Libra had only one headquarters on "Sami Frashëri" street, which if it was a street with lower demands, would probably have brought me less trouble. .

The third time, when Sami Frashëri entered my life, was two days ago, on October 31, 2024, when the Municipality of Belsh gave me the "Sami Frashëri" award for the novel Komploti. In this book, Sami Frashëri wrote that Belshi, this wonderful city among 84 lakes, could be the capital of Albania. If those who decided to make Tirana the capital, would have listened to him, surely the history of Albania would have been much calmer and the wild beylers of Tirana, including Esad Pasha, would have done less damage. Perhaps Prince Vidi would have built a palace by the Sefaran lake, or the Barom lake, or the Hasan lake, and Esad and his violent tyrants would not have been able to tame it.

With a German King, today we would be an orderly kingdom in the middle of the disorderly Balkans, which the Italians would not have conquered and the communists would not have come to power because they would not have had anyone to free us from. Perhaps to honor this unfortunate proposal, the Municipality of Belsh has established the "Sami Frashëri" literary award that they gave me yesterday, and therefore I thank them very much, because as I said, they brought Sami Frashëri into my life for the third time, but this time lucky.
