Former Serbian president warns of political implosion if Vučić rejects elections. Students more mature than the opposition...

Former Serbian President and Social Democratic Party leader Boris Tadić gave a live interview to "Danas", where he openly attacked the regime of Aleksandar Vučić, accusing him of destroying democracy and state capture. According to Tadić, the country is in a deep political and institutional crisis, which can only be resolved through early parliamentary elections.

"For six months, citizens have been on the streets demanding the fulfillment of students' demands. The regime's response has been violence, including the use of sonic weapons against protesters in Novi Sad. I see no other solution than elections," said Tadić.

He describes the government's rejection of the elections as "a rejection of the last possibility for an institutional solution", which would mean an "open occupation of the state".

Recalling that when the SNS was in opposition, it demanded elections with hunger strikes, Tadić emphasizes that today citizens and students demand elections after a long wave of protests over the lives lost in the tragedies that have shaken the country.

Implosion as a result of political gridlock

Tadić warns that the lack of political life and the systematic repression of the opposition and the media have created a social pressure that risks erupting in other forms if the crisis is not allowed to be institutionally channeled. “If there is no politics, there will be social implosion,” he warns.

According to him, any refusal by Vučić to accept the elections would be an admission that he has lost legitimacy and that he can no longer recover it through the vote.

Elections even under unfair conditions

Asked whether it is realistic to talk about elections in the current conditions, where there is a risk of manipulation, Tadić recalls that even on October 5, 2000, there were no fair conditions, but the regime fell. He emphasizes that "energy, will, courage and strategy are more important than the conditions themselves."

Students more organized than the opposition

Tadić does not spare criticism of the traditional opposition, which he accuses of lacking unity even in this crisis. In contrast, he praises the students as more responsible and united.

"The students, despite internal disagreements, have come up with clear and united demands. While the opposition, even under these conditions, has not shown any willingness for unification," he concludes./ Pamphlet
