We must move from politocracy to meritocracy.

Politocracy comes from darkness or half-light, from under-the-table agreements, from faceless and unaccountable appointments. Meritocracy, on the contrary, seeks light.

The transformation of politocracy (the power of parties and political clientele) into meritocracy (the power of ability, knowledge and integrity) is a long but possible process. It requires institutional, cultural and civic changes at the same time. Only in this way can the basis be created for the country's return to the right axis of true and effective development and progress based on real intellectual values.

Politocracy is not simply a governance problem, but a moral disease. It does not reward the capable, but the loyal, it does not raise the professional, but the militant, it does not build a state, but networks of interests. In politocracy, mediocrity becomes the norm and incompetence rises to the top, just because it knows how to be persuaded. Isn't this the real picture of Albania today? Each of us can easily put the names we have in mind to this statement according to our experiences or personal references.

Meritocracy is not lacking because we lack capable people. It is lacking because those others who represent and advocate for meritocracy are afraid of them. A capable person is not easily controlled, does not remain silent, does not blindly align himself, and therefore politocracy excludes him, exhausts him, and forces him to leave.

Politocracy comes from darkness or half-light, from under-the-table deals, from faceless and unaccountable appointments. Meritocracy, on the contrary, seeks light. It demands real competition, clear criteria, transparency, and punishment for abuse. It demands that public office be not a party reward, but a burden of responsibility.

Let's be honest: politocracy will not be overthrown by those who benefit from it. It will only collapse when citizens refuse to normalize it or accept it as a normal standard. When sharing with this is ours is not accepted as normality, but is put first and only asked "is he capable," then we can say that we are on the right track.

Meritocracy is not a luxury, but a necessary condition. Without it, education produces diplomas without knowledge, administration produces decisions without mind, and politics produces power without vision. If meritocracy is established, the state will not be considered as property that is divided into plots, where all the politico-democracy members use them according to personal or clan interests.

The choice is simple: either we build institutions that reward knowledge, integrity, dignity, and work, or we accept living in a society where mediocrity rules and the best succumb or flee.

Meritocracy doesn't come tomorrow. But it starts today, the moment we refuse to be silent, to justify, and to conform. Because every time we accept politocracy, we act against ourselves. And a society that acts against itself doesn't need enemies.
