George Bush, SPAK and the news...
Bledar Maksuti and Olsi Dado in the Constitutional Court

How do we explain this to Maksut of SPAK? In America, freedom of the press also defeated national security, not the dirty files of government thieves, which all of Albania knows about.

After the September 11 attacks, the US government launched a massive email interception program in an attempt to prevent potential terrorist attacks before they happened. The secret program essentially put the entire American population under surveillance.

An anonymous source from within the administration briefed two New York Times reporters. After all the materials were made available, the reporters began writing the story.

But the wiretap was able to hear in real time what was happening everywhere, including the news being prepared in the newsrooms. The two journalists were urgently summoned to the White House for a meeting with the President.

George Bush literally said: " I can't stop you from publishing the news, because we are a country with a free press. But I'm asking you as an American citizen and as a parent: please, don't publish it, because the damage that will be done is too great. The United States will be badly exposed to terrorist acts ."

But the journalists were not convinced. " Okay," Bush told them, "if you publish it, in the next terrorist attack, when Americans are killed, you will both come sit on my lap, we will appear in front of the cameras and you will explain to their families why they were killed ."

In the end, the article was not published. But one of the journalists was uncomfortable with the fact. It didn't take long before he left his job at the New York Times. After becoming a freelance journalist, he wrote a book in which he exposed the mass surveillance scandal.

Now, how do we explain this to SPAK's Maksut? In America, freedom of the press also defeated national security, not the files of the government's thieves, which all of Albania knows about.

Are you seriously going to block the news? No human rights court in the world will allow this.
