Now I have heard some of the justice people who saved Sali Berisha from trial for this crime blame the former chief prosecutor, but this is an alibi that shames them even more...
As Sali Berisha will go before prosecutors for the first time on January 21, he is once again drawing attention to the standard by which Albanian justice silenced the biggest political crime in 35 years, which could have dramatically changed the fate of democracy in Albania if the political rotation had not occurred in 2013.
The untried and unpunished murders of January 21, instilled fear in Albanian society and began to raise the cult of Berisha as an untouchable leader and unpunished by justice. A ridiculous investigative commission led by a charlatan former justice minister, who tried to imitate Koçi Xoxe, tried to intimidate the entire justice corps, behaving like their prosecutor. The only one who stood with dignity in the hall was Ina Rama. They also tried to intimidate the press, declaring us four main journalists critical of the government at the time, as putschists, but unfortunately, they did not dare to call us to the commission by canceling the last day. It would have been a good opportunity to at least make fun of the murderers who were puffing up on the commission chairs.
If you look back and see how the prosecution has handled this issue, it seems that only Chief Prosecutor Ina Rama, who has also been the target of relentless attacks by Sali Berisha, has resisted. The entire Tirana prosecution team that documented the situation on the ground, and then the first instance and appeal judges, have behaved more like accused than accusers.
On the night of January 21, while the Tirana prosecution sent prosecutors to the field, they were prevented from documenting the bullets at the gate of the Prime Minister's Office, which was removed in front of their eyes by guards and administration employees. They wandered around all night and were unable to access either the Guard's servers or the Prime Minister's server, being ignored as if they were employed immigrants and not state prosecutors.
The General Prosecutor's Office, which coordinated the investigation through the prosecution directors, intervened on many occasions to resist the state's disregard for prosecutors, and received a response from Sali Berisha by setting up an investigative commission and attempting to humiliate her with sexist language as a "boulevard whore", alluding to the fabricated "coup d'état".
Now I have heard some of the justice people who saved Sali Berisha from trial for this crime blame the former chief prosecutor, but this is an alibi that embarrasses them even more.
None of the prosecutors in the case, neither in the first instance nor in the appeal, where Mr. Dumani was also present, dared to declare incompetence by highlighting the need to call Sali Berisha and Lulzim Basha for questioning as persons directly responsible for the tragedy. They treated the case as a common disturbance of order and in the courtroom where the guards were tried, filled with DP militants, the only ones who trembled with fear were the judges, not the murderers.
On Wednesday, Sali Berisha will appear before SPAK after almost 15 years. Coincidentally, the chief prosecutor of SPAK is Altin Dumani, who was the prosecutor of this case on appeal, who did not dare to call Sali Berisha back then. So we have the same crime, the same criminal, the same prosecutor. The only thing that has changed is that after almost 15 years, the battle not to reopen this case has been lost, and the same criminal will appear before the same prosecutor for the same crime, for which he has not been questioned for almost 15 years.
So the only new thing is the Justice Reform. And it is on the exam to pass the class starting from November 19, 2025 onwards.
