The Turkish Ministry of Defense has reacted to the statements of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, emphasizing that Turkey aims to maintain peace and stability in the region through dialogue and cooperation.
In its response, the ministry underlined that Ankara supports good neighborly relations and constructive dialogue as a way to address open issues between the two countries. It also called for avoiding statements that could increase tensions in bilateral relations.
The reaction comes after Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis returned from a visit to Ankara, where, together with the Greek delegation, he held clear positions on the issue of casus belli, the armaments program and the F-35 aircraft, while simultaneously expressing his willingness to prevent the escalation of tensions with Turkey.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also commented on the developments during his evening statements. He described as a mistake, according to him, Mitsotakis' "identification" with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in response to a question from a Turkish journalist regarding the F-35 aircraft issue.
"Our country is in favor of maintaining peace and stability in our region, as well as addressing existing issues within the framework of constructive dialogue and good neighborly relations.
"In this context, we emphasize once again that avoiding rhetoric that could exacerbate tensions will contribute positively to bilateral relations, while we recall once again that the Turkish Armed Forces do not pose a threat to anyone who does not pose a threat to them," the Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement.
