The last week completely sank the DP in Vlora and Berat

There were no strong political developments in Berat, but last week support on the ground for the candidate nominally supported by the DP completely faded.

In the three small municipalities where early local elections were held yesterday (Mat, Cërrik, Tepelena), the turnout and results were similar to those two years ago, when municipal elections were held there. While in the two large municipalities – Vlorë and Berat – the turnout and results marked dramatic changes for the opposition.

It is true that almost 60% of the voters of the Municipality of Vlora are in emigration, but the fact that only 12% of the voters on the list participated in the vote yesterday shows that very few of them hoped for change. So, the candidate supported by the DP remained practically unsupported on the ground in the culminating days of the campaign. While the socialists worked to bring their traditional voters to the ballot boxes…

There were no strong political developments in Berat, but last week support on the ground for the candidate nominally supported by the DP completely waned. Perhaps prepared for a heavy defeat, the Berat DP leaders avoided public appearances alongside the candidate who had run two years ago as their minor rival…

The DP was not expected to win or be competitive yesterday in Vlora and Berat, but the giant electoral hole it created there sinks even deeper into hopes that one day the DP could return to being competitive at the national level...
