This video is horrific and demonstrates the alarming state of the country's institutions. In a normal state, the police should be the guarantor of the life, safety and dignity of the citizen. But in this case, it does not appear as an institution that prevents crime, but as a force that stands in front of the victim and acts against her.
An elderly citizen is raped by people who behave like law-abiding citizens, while the police, instead of stopping the rapists and ensuring public order, choose to accompany the elderly woman, who falls unconscious at the end of the video. This is a serious picture of a state that has abandoned the citizen and allowed the property mafia to operate openly, with arrogance and institutional protection.
Even more serious is the fact that the elderly woman, in this situation of pressure and violence, falls unconscious. This is not just an individual event. Where is the state? Where is the Durrës Prosecutor's Office, how much money has it received? Where is the Internal Affairs and Complaints Service? Where are the structures that should control the behavior of the police?
When the police do not protect the elderly, but accompany them; when they do not stop the aggressor, but burden the victim; when they do not prevent crime, but seem to pave the way for it, then we no longer just have a public order problem. We have a serious problem of the capture of the state by criminal interests.
This event must be investigated immediately, with the identification of every person involved, every officer present, and every order given at the scene. Responsibility cannot be covered with silence, because when an elderly woman falls unconscious in front of the police, it is not just a citizen who falls. The authority of the state falls, trust in the law falls, and any claim that institutions exist to protect people falls.
