There is a deliberate effort to steer the investment controversy of Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and his former ambassador Richard Grenell down a dead end. In almost all the debates of the evening, I come across useful idiots who rejoice that the day has come for Albania to have investments of this size. There are those who say: better money from America, than from Russia or China. There are even palaces that sell soap for cheese, presenting as a success the fact that this project appeared in the New York Times, although the article of the American newspaper made open allusions to a corruption affair.
This is exactly where the problem lies. Before we fall into the trap served to us: "are you for or against a foreign investment", we must raise the question, if the few things we know about Sazan and Zvrnec can really be called such.
Most likely, instead of being a miracle of free initiative, what Rama and the Trump family entourage have prepared is a dirty political lobbying bazaar.
For this, there is no need to trust the Albanian 'kazans' or 'kadris'. Even the New York Times, Newsweek and Frankfurter Allemegne Zeitung show openly and with facts the scenes on which this speculation of billions has been raised. They note that both in Sazan and in Belgrade, where it is intended to be built on the former bombed general headquarters building, the investment has been chosen to be built on state property. So it is clear that we are not dealing with the magic of the market, but with former officials who want to return to power in the USA and Balkan vassals who are ready to forgive them everything to strengthen their personal power.
The Western press makes it very clear that all the businesses of Trump's favorite son-in-law are focused on the oil-holding monarchies of the Persian Gulf, precisely where he has played as a White House adviser, to de-escalate relations with Israel in the framework of the "agreements of Abraham". Even more barren is the CV of Ambassador Grenell, who has long been known as a political lobbyist in favor of dictators. He once supported the Moldovan and Nigerian autocrats, without mentioning that the Serbian opposition has accused him of being paid by the Vucic regime, in exchange for the support he gives against Kosovo. The Serbian president not only decorated Grenell with the highest order, which he also gave to Putin, but at the height of the terrorist attack in Banjska, the former ambassador dared to blame the Albanians, declaring that they are the ones who violate the rights of the Serbs in North.
While Grenell's name has often been mentioned in the adventure of the division of Kosovo, if you search in the archives, you will notice that the Le Monde newspaper has also mentioned the political columnist Kushner, as being involved in the territory exchange project, in 2018.
Maybe it's a crazy coincidence, but the same people who were playing cards six years ago have now decided to do business. Just like Alabari who landed from the shores of the Sava to those of the Adriatic, Grenelli and Kushner also arrived at Rama, immediately after they closed the pact with Vucic. Everyone is free to believe that these are lucky coincidences and that here we have no reason to suspect a game that has its roots in Belgrade.
I also don't want to fall prey to conspiracy theories, which all end with the dilemma between patriots and traitors, but listing these facts is valuable to understand that this affair has nothing in common with normal business, foreign investments, the market free and the development of tourism. It is just a ploy for political purposes. This is how the Western press tells us that Kushner and Grenell are used to working, this is how we know Vucic and Rama act. And if this was not enough, our prime minister did not hesitate to give us a concrete example. Only now do we understand why the law on protected areas was changed, contrary to EU directives, paving the way for construction there as well. Only now we find out why the deadline to benefit from the law on strategic investors was postponed. Nothing else can explain how it is possible that Edi Rama gives approval from the assembly of the SP, for the paradise that Kushner and Grenell will build on the shores of Vlora, without yet taking it out of the general staff distribution plan and still without signing it the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
Is there a more political investment than that? Is there a shorter connection between the interests of the lobbyist and the one who benefits financially from them?
I believe this is a case that should be studied in schools, much like Jared Kushner's deals with oil-holding dictatorships, where the monarchs of the Persian Gulf donate wealth at their personal behest.
Therefore, every time we hear that the debate shifts to unrelated topics, how much tourism has progressed, how much Vlora has developed, how well we achieved this day for American investments, we must understand that they are deceiving us.
