The myth of Albanian criminals as Berisha's alibi for the devastating

Many of them use campaigns to solve some of their problems and make some deals, but not to bring votes to one candidate or another.

One of the main alibis with which Berisha is trying to justify his devastating defeat on May 11 is the interference of organized crime in the elections. Although he tries to take as an illustration the votes of a SP candidate in Elbasan that are anomalously high and to hide the fact that one of his deputies in Durres is directly involved in the gang fight, in reality, more than he is doing any service to justice, he is doing service to the myth of criminals in Albanian society.

SPAK has done a commendable job in relation to organized crime. More than mass arrests of criminal groups and penetration into them through repentants, it has done a valuable service to Albanian society by making public the conversations of Albanian organized crime on Encrochat or other applications with which they communicate. These declassified conversations, despite their questionable legal force, undoubtedly have great merit, as they demystify Albanian criminals as alleged organized criminal groups or criminals who command politics.

They show us a bunch of mentally crippled, cowardly, treacherous, ignorant, sometimes violent in the extreme in a way disproportionate to the objectives they have and above all disorganized. To date, from what SPAK has made public, we do not have any criminal group structured at such a level that can be considered a mafia group in the sense that the mafia has in the West, especially in the countries neighboring us. We simply have a bunch of criminals who are soldiers of the first paymaster.

In this regard, the creation of a false myth about the involvement of criminals in the Albanian elections is a genuine act of "charity" for crime in Albania, mainly by Sali Berisha, who, trying to justify his loss, is raising a false myth that does not exist.

The idea that two or three criminals in Durrës or Elbasan would have lined up people to vote, besides being offensive, is a direct sponsorship of crime to strengthen their myth.

The truth is that Albanian crime can neither influence elections nor has the courage to get directly involved in the campaign. Many of them, of course, use the campaigns to solve some of their problems and make some bargains, but not to bring votes to one or another candidate. Their influence, even in the few places where they are mentioned, such as in Elbasan or Durrës, may be many times smaller than the influence of a big businessman or a powerful local economic factor.

What makes Albanian crime important is precisely this post-election debate, this attempt by Berisha to find an alibi, who, in order to save his "honor", strengthens the "honor" of criminals, mythologizing them as mafiosi who dictate elections in Albania.

The highest level of an Albanian bandit is the level of a local gangster who can maximally benefit from local clan connections.

Albanian criminals become dangerous after the elections, precisely at such moments when they are spoken of as important actors. Those who actually hide like mice during the campaigns, lest someone politically attack them and they go to prison, after the campaign, in situations like this when Sali Berisha mentions them every day, they begin to factor in and impose themselves on local leaders, but also on those in power, as people with "merits". And they have Sali Berisha's attacks on them as "facts".

Therefore, if there is one thing that needs to be fought and where the government should be careful, it is precisely the sponsorship that Sali Berisha gives to organized crime in order to factor it in and give it the right to claim the merits of a war that it has never fought. By being a partner with them in this battle to "appear strong", Sali Berisha is in fact the biggest sponsor of Albanian crime, which is neither organized crime nor a political factor, but simply a gang of gangsters who feel important thanks to Sali Berisha.
