Another reason why the opposition councilors did not follow the positions of Berisha and Meta is the fact that they see their position as a function of the battle against Edi Rama, which has nothing to do with Himara, but with their battle for power.
The vote for the temporary mayor of Himara Municipality within the Municipal Council revealed that Fredi Beleri enjoys the support of 19 percent of the electorate, while the rest of the opposition councilors voted for the new mayor.
The vote should be read not so much as a coordinated patriotic gesture, as it really is not. The decision is an abandonment of the policy of the opposition leaders by the opposition itself.
And there are several reasons
The first is that the opposition councilors who live in Himare got the votes for their problems and their community, and not for "Golden Dawn". "Golden Dawn" is a problem for Greece itself, not Himara anymore.
Being identified with the "Golden Dawn" policy, Beleri has raised the stake of the political conflict between Albania and Greece beyond diplomatic ethics and turned it into a cockfight, where Greece thinks that Albania should put its head down, while Albania thinks that Beleri he must bow his head before justice and the Albanians, who recognize him more as accused of murder than accused of stealing votes.
By raising the debate at this level, the opposition councilors risked losing their main function, that of representing the problems of those who have elected them, since they have no power to intervene in the Rama-Micotaqis conflict because of Beler. They need a mayor and not a conflict because of the municipality.
And this is a fundamental reason why they did not imitate Berisha and Meta in their voting, and why those two or three aggressive types who stage violence and tension are really isolated.
Another reason why the opposition councilors did not follow the positions of Berisha and Meta is the fact that they see their position as a function of the battle against Edi Rama, which has nothing to do with Himara, but with their battle for power.
In Himara, the power struggle is over. The voters entrusted the power to the Socialist Party with an overwhelming majority in the council, while Beleri received the controversial mandate for chairman with 19 more votes. And just as Berisha and Meta have their own objectives in the bargain with Greece, and their councilors have their own objectives in voting for the Municipality.
Lastly, but with great importance, is the fact that every Albanian councilor voted against Beler. This was not done in the name of patriotism or some nationalist folkloric agreement, but the vote has separated Greece's interest from Albania's interest in this story.
Four councilors there (19 percent of the Council) are ready to protect the interest of Greece, 17 councilors or 81 percent of the Council are ready to protect the interest of Albania.
And this division is caused precisely by the nationalist and in some cases racist provocation of the representative of "Golden Dawn", Fredi Beleri, because of the way he wants to get out of this process, having against the European Union, the USA and of course the Albanian justice system.
The only allies he has in this story are Berisha and Meta. But they are already one top of the window, the other towards the seven windows.
