Why did Sali Berisha choose the day of the NATO summit as the date for his national protest?
The leadership of Sali Berisha's party, already sealed by the Court of Appeal, has set the date of the national protest on July 11.
But why on the 11th? What is eleven, and why not twelve, or thirteen, fourteen, fifteen and so on?
This is a question that has not been resolved by the body that set the relevant date. What symbolism does July 11 represent? In the history of the country and that of the opposition, there is no real reference.
But, on July 11 of this year, that is, after a few days, a very important event will take place for Albania as well, above all for Albania.
From July 9 to 11 in the capital of the United States of America - Washington, the Summit of the leaders of NATO member countries takes place. A very important development both politically and historically. After commemorating the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Alliance.
The last summit that took place in Washington was in 1999, under the leadership of Bill Clinton, at the height of the Kosovo war. In 2012, it was the last summit that took place in the USA, namely in Chicago, under the leadership of President Barack Obama.
This year's summit is important, not simply for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the longest-lived Alliance of the Western political world, but because it is expected to give a final decision on Ukraine and the clash with Russia.
Prime Minister Edi Rama will represent Albania at the Washington summit, and there may be other important meetings. But aside from the governmental aspect, July 11 is a date when, in all probability, Russia and its allies will launch a propaganda offensive. As it also happens on Albanian television, where staunch sympathizers of Vladimir Putin never tire of repeating their idolatry for what they call the Russian supercat, which is actually quite the opposite.
Anyway, the question arises spontaneously: Why did Sali Berisha choose the day of the NATO summit as the date for his national protest? As a political statement to strengthen the Euro-Atlantic message of the DP? For this, he could choose another date, and together with NATO, elaborate for the Albanian public as the opposition, the approaches to the decisions of the leaders of the most powerful military political alliance in the world.
What seems or beats more naturally is the backlash, if only because of the anger that Berisha has towards the US as the leader of NATO, which has declared it Non Grata, and never gets tired of repeating it. But what opposition will be born on July 11? This must be seen, but from today, there are not many dilemmas, an antagonistic opposition with the USA!
