52-year-old Albanian Ilir Kasa has been sentenced to eight years in prison, after being found guilty of creating and running two pubs in Scotland.
He managed and ran premises in Glasgow and Harthill, which were found by Organized Crime police officers in April 2022. He was considered a senior organized crime figure for running pubs in Scotland.
When authorities swooped in to raid the first site, based in a former bank on Glasgow's Great Western Road, police discovered more than 350 cannabis plants and sophisticated planting, growing and watering systems.
A similar structure was found at a second location on West Main Street in Harthill, containing another 150 plants. Scottish media reports that experts estimated the amount of cannabis to be worth 300,000 pounds.
After this police action, Ilir Kasa left the scene, but a few months later he returned to Scotland. After the authorities established that he was again in Scotland, it became possible to arrest him in July 2022.
"Kasa was a senior member of an organized crime group responsible for running cannabis premises in locations across Scotland's Central Belt. His was a profitable business. The plants we found would have generated thousands of pounds in profits for his criminal group, which would no doubt have been reinvested in further criminality. Working with our partners in Police Scotland through the Organized Crime Partnership, we are determined to do everything we can to target, disrupt and dismantle those criminal networks that are most damaging to our communities ," said the Branch's Operations Manager. NCA, Michael Miller.
