Former Police Officer Irakli Koçiaj surrendered yesterday to the Saranda Police Station, after being wanted since May 25 by order of the Saranda Prosecutor's Office for the criminal offense of "abuse of office".
Koçiaj, who served as the Crimes Officer for the Ksamil area, is suspected of having favored unauthorized construction in this tourist area. Meanwhile, four employees of the Territory Protection Inspectorate (IMT) at the Saranda Municipality are still being sought.
As part of this investigation, eight former Saranda Police officers have been arrested so far, suspected of the same criminal offense. Two of them, including the former chief of the Police Station, are in prison with a 30-day security measure and it is expected that their security measure will be reassessed soon. While five others are under "house arrest" security measure.
Investigations continue to fully document the case and determine responsibilities regarding unauthorized construction in the Ksamil area.
