The 50-year-old turns out to be a co-shareholder in a company licensed in North Macedonia. If this track is confirmed, the event could bring the risks associated with this industry back to the center of the debate.

A week after the execution of Edmond Sula in Bërxullë, the perpetrator of the crime still remains unidentified, while investigators continue to work on several leads, including his activity in the field of medical cannabis.

Sources from the investigative group indicate that the Anti-Crime Unit of the Tirana Police has provided information according to which Edmond alias Ali Sula was a co-shareholder in a company licensed for the cultivation of medical cannabis in North Macedonia, where this activity is legal and has been operating for years.

Investigators are verifying whether there may be a connection between his activity in this sector and the execution. So far, there is no evidence to support this lead, but Albanian authorities are expected to officially request information from their Macedonian counterparts on the company's activity and Sula's role in it. The answer is expected to determine whether this lead will gain more weight in the investigation.

In parallel, verifications continue regarding other conflicts that the 50-year-old is suspected of having, including disputes in the property sales business, suspicions of usury, and other possible conflicts.

Investigations to date indicate that the perpetrator acted alone and carefully planned the assassination. Security cameras have not captured any vehicle used for the escape, while it is suspected that the perpetrator hid behind vegetation near the scene and, after the execution, fled on foot through fields and a wooded area, avoiding the roads covered by cameras.

This element has raised suspicions that the perpetrator knew the terrain very well and had previously studied the escape route. Unlike other assassinations, where perpetrators often use and then burn the vehicle of the crime, in this case no burned car was found, which has led investigators to not rule out the possibility that the perpetrator is not a hired killer, but a person connected to the victim's conflicts.

The medical cannabis track also gains importance due to the fact that Albania has already entered the phase of implementing the law for this industry. The government has approved a map with 10 cultivation areas in 10 counties of the country, with a total of 138 plots, as well as licensing criteria and safety measures that operators must meet. However, despite the legal framework, cultivation on the ground has not yet begun.

If the investigation were to prove that the murder of Edmond Sula is linked to activity in the medical cannabis sector, this would be an alarm signal about the risks that may accompany an industry of high economic interest, which has just received the green light in Albania. Up to this stage, however, it is only one of the leads being verified by the investigative group and not a proven link between the crime and this activity.
