Genti Berisha, the 26-year-old Albanian arrested after the death of Milan Local Police officer Francesco Imprezzabile, has been placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet, by decision of the Italian authorities.

Berisha is charged with evading police control and causing death by negligence, following a high-speed chase that ended tragically. According to preliminary investigations, he failed to obey a police signal to stop, triggering a chase during which the 39-year-old officer lost control of his motorcycle and died.

During questioning, the 26-year-old accepted responsibility for his decision to leave and apologized for the incident.

"I take full responsibility for this instinctive and reckless action. I misjudged the situation as an immature person," he was quoted as saying, according to his lawyer, Fabrizio Cardinali.

Berisha also expressed that he is "really emotionally disturbed" about the consequences of the event and apologized once again to the officer's family.

According to the lawyer, the young man stated that he did not realize that the officer had fallen during the pursuit.

"If I had thought more calmly, I wouldn't have left. I didn't see the officer fall," he is reported to have said.

During his testimony, Berisha also explained the reason why he did not stop at the checkpoint in the Ponte Lambro area.

"I had drugs with me, that's why I didn't stop," he told investigators.

His lawyer also announced that his client is willing to compensate the officer's family, within his economic means.
