The Greek media have gone into chaos over the event that happened yesterday afternoon in Loutsa in the Artemis area east of Athens. At first it was widely reported that the victims found in a Ford car with German license plates were Albanians.
Then it was said that they were Bulgarians, while now Kathimerini, one of the most serious media in the country, writes that the killed are of Turkish nationality. Greek media referring to the police investigation write that they were carrying French identity cards.
This has made it even more difficult to identify the victims. The authorities have asked for a DNA analysis to be carried out, while fingerprints are also being worked on. Even the German license plates of the victims' car are suspected to be forged. Investigators are working to identify the perpetrators who are believed to have fled on a motorcycle and a black Ford vehicle.
From the first moment, the police talked about "settlement" between criminal gangs. It is even claimed that members of what is considered the "prison mafia" made up of Albanians and Romanians have had disagreements over illegal affairs (drugs, extortion, etc.). For this they have organized a clarifying meeting or an ambush for their rivals.
According to data collected from the crime scene, the victims were unarmed. The perpetrators removed items from the victims' vehicle, but it is not known what they were. The perpetrators shot more than 20-25 times at the 6 passengers of the vehicle with a 9 mm pistol.
5 of the victims were found inside the car while the driver was outside. Greek police are working with their German counterparts and Interpol. The incident happened around 18:30 and the police were notified by the residents of the area who heard the crackling.
One of the residents of the area, who was the first to alert the authorities, said that he first heard gunshots and then about 100 to 150 more shots.
While another witness added: I went outside to see exactly what was going on and what I saw was truly horrifying. Four people inside the car were dead and two others were outside.
The Greek media say that the incident occurred due to the settlement of accounts between rival gangs, and it is not excluded that the genesis of the conflict started inside the prisons.
