The "SKY ECC" mega-trial continued today in Belgium with 129 defendants accused of international cocaine trafficking, including the businessman from Vlora, Eridan Munoz Guerrero. After five months of trial, today the defendants were given the floor for the last time.
About 15 defendants spoke Albanian, Greek, Italian, and sometimes French. Many to express regret, to say how difficult this trial was or to assure the court that we will not see them again. For the federal prosecutor, Julien Moinil, most of them will have to spend the next few years in prison. The last session was devoted to the answers of the defense lawyers and the last words of the defendants. The court then announced that the matter would be taken under advisement. 20 years are required for managers.
The sentence is illegal, according to the defense. The latter state that the maximum is 15 years. Even worse. For the defense, this judgment would not be fair because the raw data, millions of messages collected through Sky ECC, would not be fully communicated to the defense. According to these lawyers, the procedure would be unacceptable. So five months for nothing? The judgment will be announced on September 2.
"The judges will analyze the arguments of the parties, the prosecutor, the lawyers, but based on the file. In this case, 220 thousand pages that are the subject of their analysis. But not in relation to the other files that we hear in the press, if necessary, a sentence will have to be imposed" , explains Denis Goeman, spokesperson of the Court of First Instance of Brussels.
