A Greek court has remanded in prison three of the people arrested for the murder of Giorgos Moschouris, known in the criminal world by the nickname "Thamnakias", who was executed in April 2025 in the Halandri area, near Athens. Among the suspects are two Albanian citizens.
At least four people are involved in the murder, charged with nine felonies and six misdemeanors. The arrested have denied involvement in the criminal organization and in the assassination of Moschouris.
One of the defendants has stated to investigators that he was in another location at the time of the murder, claiming that this is proven by cell phone records. He has also denied knowing his co-defendants.
"I deny the charges. I have no connection with the other defendants," the 48-year-old is reported to have declared.
Doubts of the Greek authorities
Greek investigators suspect that the assassination was ordered by rivals of "Thamnakias" in the criminal world. According to authorities, two of the suspects were already in prison for other matters when the investigation into the criminal organization began.
Greek police have identified as suspects Albanians Dhionis Kokoni and a person with the surname Jupe, as well as Greek citizens Dimitris Aleksopoulos and Alexandros Petropoulos.
Hidden GPS and phones in “airplane mode”
One of the items being analyzed by investigators is a GPS device hidden inside a surgical glove. Authorities suspect that it may contain new evidence and information about other possible targets of the criminal organization.
According to the investigative file, one of the arrested men was carrying five mobile phones in "airplane mode" and two portable routers, a method allegedly used to avoid being tracked by authorities. The GPS device was hidden so as not to leave DNA traces or fingerprints.
interceptions
The file also includes wiretaps of one of the defendants. In an intercepted conversation, he is heard saying:
"Yes, I am a murderer and a thief, I have done every evil thing."
According to Greek media, it took investigators more than a year of video and material analysis to identify the group suspected of executing Moschouris.
Authorities have reconstructed the movements of the vehicles used by the perpetrators, from the moment they arrived in Halandri until the car was burned after the attack. According to the investigation, the perpetrators used cash payments at checkpoints to avoid bank traces.
What is known about the assassination?
According to investigators, two “operational” vehicles arrived at the area where the private clinic where “Thamnakias” was killed was located. Footage shows people wearing surgical masks, hoods and hats moving near the scene minutes before the attack.
After the murder, the perpetrators allegedly fled towards the Aspropirgos area and then burned the vehicle used in the attack. Investigators have also identified a taxi driver who is suspected of transporting one of the people involved.
