Five days after the disappearance of 34-year-old Eglant Koçi, the Tirana Police investigations have taken a new direction. According to suspicions so far, the young man may have been murdered, while the suspected perpetrator is his close friend, Armand Shakaj, who has been declared wanted.
Family members reported Koç's disappearance on June 4, triggering the investigation. Security camera footage shows that the 34-year-old was last seen walking from Wilson Square to Jean D'Ark Boulevard, where he went to a friend's bar. According to investigators, he was never seen leaving the area.
By analyzing the footage and conducting investigative actions on the ground, the police have secured evidence that has strengthened the suspicions that Koçi was murdered and that his body was transported and hidden in a vehicle.
As part of the investigation, Enea Zyferi, a waiter at a bar owned by Armand Shakaj and near the place where the incident allegedly took place, was also arrested. He is accused of being an accomplice, as he is suspected of having been a witness during the transportation of the body.
Meanwhile, the suspected perpetrator remains at large and the police still have no trace of his whereabouts.
Sources from the investigation indicate that in order to hide his tracks, Shakaj is suspected of having moved the victim's motorcycle from the area where the crime occurred to the 5 Maji area, where the vehicle was found two days later.
Police have also seized the vehicle suspected of being used to transport the 34-year-old. During the examination of the vehicle, blood stains were found, which are suspected to belong to Koç. The samples have been sent for laboratory analysis.
Currently, searches to find the body continue in several suburban areas of Tirana, including Dajti and the axes towards Elbasan.
Investigators are also verifying the 34-year-old's activity. Although he was employed at a furniture store, one of the leads the investigation is focusing on is his possible involvement in cryptocurrency activity.
The police and the prosecution are continuing their investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
