A serious road accident that occurred three days ago in Sicily, Italy, has left one dead and six people injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of March 1, on the Naro–Camastra highway, where a vehicle and a truck transporting fruit and vegetables collided.
Flori Topalli, 24, an Albanian immigrant living in Italy, lost his life as a result of the accident. His family has made a public appeal for financial assistance, in order to transport his body to Albania for the funeral ceremony.
The injured are also Albanian citizens. The 39-year-old driver of the vehicle in which the victim was traveling is in the most serious condition. He was initially taken to the “Barone Lombardo” hospital in Canicattì and then transferred to the Villa Sofia Hospital in Palermo for more specialized treatment. Italian media report that doctors remain reserved about his health condition.
The other injured are being treated in hospitals in Canicattì and Agrigento and are out of danger.
According to reports, the five Albanian workers travelling in the vehicle lived in the Canicattì and Naro areas. They were aged between 24 and 39 and had recently gone to Italy, where they worked in seasonal agriculture. Meanwhile, the Carabinieri have launched investigations to determine the causes and full dynamics of the accident.
