SPAK closes Ilir Shtufi's escape routes, ready extradition papers from

Within the 40-day deadline set by the Thessaloniki court, the Special Prosecution Office SPAK has addressed a letter of request to the Greek authorities, requesting the extradition of construction businessman Ilir Shtufi, who was arrested in June 2026 in Thessaloniki, as a person involved in "Laundering of proceeds of crime" and "Structured criminal group".

Part of the investigative material, translated by the Ministry of Justice, has already been sent to the Greek prosecution, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The extradition request of the Special Prosecution Office is expected to be sent to the Extradition Court in Thessaloniki, where businessman Ilir Shtufi will face for the first time the two charges filed by SPAK, against whom the security measure "Arrest in prison" was imposed in June. Ilir Shtufi is suspected of laundering money obtained from the criminal activity of cocaine trafficking, in connection with other names investigated by SPAK, such as Artur Koçeku and other persons.

Against Shtufi and Koçek, Erjon Alibej, an associate of the SPAK special prosecution, also testified. Businessman Ilir Shtufi was detained on June 12, 2026, in a hotel in Thessaloniki, while he was waiting for a birthday party. "Ora News" learns that a day before the action carried out by SPAK, Ilir Shtufi left for Thessaloniki, after having received an invitation from a friend of his, to celebrate his child's birthday.

As soon as he arrived in Thessaloniki, Shtufi checked into a hotel and the next morning, agents of the National Bureau of Investigation arrived at his villa in Tirana. It is learned that the first person to come out of the door of the luxurious villa was his wife, who told the officers that her husband had traveled to Greece and was not at home. And while they searched Shtufi's apartment, the BKH officers asked his wife to call her husband to find out if he was in Greece or not. Through the wife's phone, Ilir Shtufi spoke with one of the BKH officers, where the latter asked him to report to a police station or send a phone location of where he was actually located.

Ilir Shtufi sent a phone location to the BKH officer and after this action, within a few minutes a Thessaloniki police patrol went to the hotel premises and then arrested Ilir Shtufi on June 12, 2026. Since this mistake of sending the location to the woman's phone, Ilir Shtufi is in prison in Thessaloniki and within a few days the court process for his extradition to Albania is expected to begin. Shtufi has contracted two well-known lawyers in Greece in the hope of overturning the extradition. Meanwhile, in Albania, some of his companies have been placed under preventive seizure./ OraNews
