
Greek police have cracked down on another drug trafficking case, seizing a large shipment at the Greek-Albanian border.
Police officers from the Narcotics Department of the Deputy Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Prosecution of Ioannina, in cooperation with the Konica Police Department, seized a large quantity in an area of Konica, Ioannina.
In particular, in the context of ongoing police checks, a private car driver, realizing the presence of the police and to avoid the close check, made a U-turn on the spot, subsequently increasing his speed. During the escape attempt, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve and stop, and then fled on foot, taking advantage of the darkness, as well as the wooded and difficult terrain of the area.
During the search of the abandoned car, which bore foreign license plates, 125 packages of marijuana were found and seized, with a total weight of 193 kg and 212 grams.
The vehicle was seized, while investigations by the Narcotics Department, in cooperation with the Criminal Investigations Department of the Epirus Regional General Directorate of Police, to discover the identity of the driver, are ongoing.
The total amount seized by the Greek police in the last two months that is suspected of coming from Albania is around 435 kg of marijuana. 2 cases were seized in Thessaloniki, 1 in Kostur, 1 in Ioannina and 2 in Igoumenitsa, one of which was on the street.
