A criminal group that trafficked stolen artworks from various European countries into our country was busted by the Tirana police.
According to the police, hundreds of objects of historical and cultural value were being kept for the purpose of sale in the apartment of 2 members of the criminal group, Jetmir and Aurel Halilaj, father and son.
"As a result of an intensive investigation conducted with special methods, for several weeks, by specialists of the Section for the Investigation of Illicit Trafficking, in coordination with the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, the mega-operation "Dark Museum" was finalized, within the framework of which citizens AH, 20 years old and I. Gj, 30 years old, were arrested, and citizen JH, 42 years old, all three residents of Kamza, was declared wanted.
The investigations suspect that the 3 citizens, organized as a group, were trafficking in Albania objects of historical and cultural value, stolen in various European countries. The objects, which were mainly provided by the arrested citizen I. Gj., were trafficked with the aim of selling them in our country, in violation of the law.
From the search of the apartment of citizens AH and JH (father and son), in Kamza, the following were found:
-31 carved wooden works with various motifs;
-3 sculptures in the shape of elephant tusk;
-6 paintings by foreign authors;
-411 albums with postage stamps from different countries around the world;
-an original French record, from 1925;
-other objects of artistic and historical value (a metal sword, an eagle sculpture, a glass vase and a wooden suitcase with decorative works).
