The Special Prosecutor's Office requested the seizure of Alket Hatisë, known as the "Drug Lord", who was arrested in Albania and extradited to Italy to serve his sentence for drug trafficking.
The assets are in the name of Hatia, his brother and his wife, as the request comes within the framework of Operation "Force of the Law".
There are 8 assets in the request for confiscation, as they were from an unjustified source. Among them, apartments, parking lots and vehicles.
Meanwhile, a hotel owned by the Hatia family has been returned after investigations by the decision of the Court of Appeal.
Alket Hatija, also known as "Baron" or "Drug Lord" after trafficking 540 kilograms of heroin and cocaine in Italy in 2003-2004, was extradited on August 30 to Italy, where he will serve a 20-year prison sentence. granted by the Court of Appeal of Milan in 2015.
The 50-year-old man, who fought at all levels of the judiciary to avoid extradition, was arrested on Wednesday in the early hours of the morning at his hotel in the city of Durrës. The police intervened around 04:00, when the long-wanted for five years had just woken up from his sleep and was feeding the chickens in an area behind the hotel.
According to the investigations in Italy, 20 years ago Alket Hatija, in cooperation with 40 other people, transported large quantities of heroin and cocaine from Albania. Hatija was arrested in 2017, but a few months later the Court of Durrës refused extradition and lifted the "prison arrest" measure, a decision that was also upheld by the Appeal.
Subsequently, the Supreme Court once again returned it to the First Instance, which this time together with Apel accepted the extradition. But, Alket Hatija did not give up, from the escape and through his defenders he sent the case to the Constitutional Court, which finally put an end to the judicial ordeal on January 31, 2022, leaving in effect his final extradition to Milan.
