The Albanian was caught with drugs, sentenced to prison in Ireland: I had to pay

Ergis Metaj has been sentenced to prison in Ireland, after being caught with cannabis worth 13 thousand euros.

Foreign media reports that he was part of an Albanian gang that had packed the drugs and sent them by mail, but the moment the 23-year-old received them, he was caught red-handed.

Metaj arrived a year ago in Ireland with his wife, where they sought asylum, using a forged Greek passport. Currently the wife is in the refugee shelter in Sligo, together with their 8 month old child.

Metaj pleaded guilty to possessing more than €13,000 worth of cannabis for the purpose of sale, although he initially denied any drug involvement. He said he had gone out to pick up a mailbox, which he claimed was a television. But these were rejected by the investigators.

He further confessed that in his beginnings in Ireland, he had worked as a washerman, but he needed money, as he had borrowed 15,000 euros to leave Albania for Ireland.
