A 29-year-old Albanian man has been sentenced to 6 years in prison in Germany, after he was caught transporting several kilograms of cocaine on behalf of a gang in Paderborn.
The young man was caught at the Belgian-German border in April, as a result of a long and extensive investigative work by the German authorities. In his vehicle were more than 10 kilograms of cocaine, hidden in a cleverly prepared center console with an electric lock.
The police discovered a complex network in which cocaine was trafficked on a large scale. The "things" were brought to Germany by couriers from Belgium, temporarily stored in Paderborn and Düsseldorf and from there delivered to customers, for example in Kassel, where the 29-year-old delivered 2.5 kilograms last September and received 90,000 euros in return, which took them to Paderborn, where the leader of the gang was said to be stationed.
Prosecutor Frank Stegen summarized in his indictment that the defendant had debts "to problematic people" and therefore became involved in working as a driver for those behind the illegal drug trade.
For this, defense lawyer Dr. Klaus Kirchner did not want to mention the name of his client, because he was afraid for his wife and three children in Albania. "If you say anything about it, the family should expect consequences." The 29-year-old wants to be deported to his country as soon as possible while serving his sentence.
According to the court's assessment, this could be after three years in prison. Judge Schülke assessed the defendant as having acted in economic hardship, without a school diploma or vocational training, he had to support his family only with poorly paid unskilled jobs. For his travels as a courier, he received up to 450 euros per kilogram of cocaine.
