The Tirana Court has remanded in prison 40-year-old Elson alias Durim Doku, who had become a terror to shops operating in several shopping centers in Tirana.
The prosecutor in the case, Bledar Valikaj, requested the imposition of a "prison arrest" measure, as Elson Doku had become a serial thief in Tirana, having repeated thefts from businesses on many occasions.
This is an economic damage of 11 million and 250 thousand old lekë committed in several cases.
There are 7 episodes documented by the police, where Doku appears to have stolen expensive glasses ranging in price from 630 thousand old lek to 3 million 540 thousand old lek.
It is learned that all police stations in Tirana had received reports from various businesses about the theft of items, but for a long time, the person whom police agents considered to be the "Lypeni" of the capital was not identified.
But on April 1, 2024, businessman RN appeared at the premises of Police Station No. 1 in Tirana, filing a criminal report, after a person stole a pair of "Cartier" glasses worth 3 million and 540 thousand old lekë from his store, "Visionare", located in a shopping mall.
The businessman presented the police with the video footage, which showed the thief deactivating the electronic code, then putting his glasses in the inside pocket of his sweatshirt and leaving.
The businessman himself told the police that from verifications conducted privately, he suspects that the person who stole from his store is called Elson Doku and lives in the "Bregu të Lumit" area.
The same person, on January 13, 2025, stole a pair of "CARTIER" brand glasses from the same store, with a market value of 155,000 lek.
According to the footage, this person entered the store as a customer and, taking advantage of the staff's lack of attention, deactivated the glasses' sensor, put them in his pocket and left.
In his testimony, the businessman indicated at different times that he suspects that the same person has stolen glasses from well-known brands from other stores in the shopping center.
More specifically:
1. Sunglasses from the brand "Linda Farrow" worth 143,000 lek.
2. Sunglasses from the brand "Linda Farrow" worth 130,000 lek.
3. Sunglasses from the brand "Linda Farrow" worth 122,500 lek.
4. Sunglasses from the brand "Linda Farrow" worth 157,500 lek.
5. Optical glasses of the brand "Tom Ford" worth 63,000 lek.
Following this denunciation, the Police have determined that Elson Doku is a serial thief and has been convicted several times for the criminal offense of "Theft".
Investigators have managed to locate Doku and arrest him. He is currently charged with "Theft" committed on 7 occasions.
But the police and prosecution are awaiting other complaints from citizens, as there are suspicions that Doku has participated in other thefts./ Ora News
