Kostandin Nishku, 59 years old, internationally wanted for 29 years, has been arrested in Greece, with the aim of extradition to our country.
He has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a 9-year-old boy, the nephew of a man who had killed his brother.
Nishku has managed to escape prison since 1997 by living under the false identity of Hariz Vjeri.
But how did the event happen in '97?
The tragic story begins on March 19, 1997, when Nishku, alias Baki Duzha, together with citizen Roland Kotorri, went armed to the house of citizen Kujtim Bregu. Their target was Veli Bregu, Kujtim's brother, since Veli Bregu had killed Nishku's brother in 1993 and had escaped from prison during the riots of 1997.
Veli Bregu was not in the apartment and only Kujtimi, his wife, 10-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter were there. After asking them to tell him where Veli Bregu was and receiving no answer, the stranger ordered citizen Roland Kotorri to kill the minor son and after Kotorri refused, he shot him in the head with a pistol, causing his instant death.
After the incident, Nishku fled to Greece, where he lived under the false identity of Hariz Vjeri. His identification was carried out based on the false identity and a photographic comparison of the author's photo from 1997 and the passport photo illegally obtained in 2013.
After the arrest, the man is expected to be extradited to our country, where he will serve a life sentence.
