Numerous personalities of art, culture, Albanian and Kosovar politics, as well as foreign diplomats are honoring the colossus of Albanian letters, Ismail Kadare, who passed away two days ago. The tributes started at 9:00 a.m. at the National Theater of Opera, Ballet and Popular Ensemble.
The coffin covered with the Albanian flag is placed on the TKOB stage, while in the background is the silhouette of Mother Teresa, with her nun's veil, white and blue stripes, praying hands and rosary with a cross. In addition to the funeral music, the writer's poems are also being read in the background.
Dressed in black and with tears in their eyes, wife Helena Kadare and two daughters Gresa and Besjana await the condolences of a continuous procession of state dignitaries, but also a considerable number of ordinary citizens. A few meters away, the book of condolences and a large photo of Ismail Kadere is placed.
For Alda Bardhyl, the director of the National Book and Reading Center, Kadare will remain one of the brightest minds of the 21st century.
"Sad day not only for the culture of Albania, but also for world culture. He was not the sharp mind of Albania, but he will remain one of the minds of the 21st century. A man and personality who gave a lot to the language of the Albanian nation, shining it in the eyes of the world, presenting a fantastic Albania. Kadare left peacefully because he thought that he had accomplished what is important for a writer - the publication of his complete work", said Alda Bardhyli.
