The political leader of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition, Lulzim Basha, has spoken openly about his ambition to become Prime Minister of Albania, while facing opposition and retorts from analysts.
Basha emphasized that the Euro-Atlantic Coalition is the only solution, expressing his conviction about his role in being at the head of the Government.
Asked if he will be a candidate for Prime Minister, Basha said:
"I believe that I have all the capacities, experience, and network inside and outside the country to serve Albania better than anyone else in these 35 years and to give the country a prime minister of European dimensions, as it deserves. I have this ambition because it is not the first time I have run for Prime Minister."
During the debate, there was also a clash with journalist Arion Sulo, who addressed Basha saying that they were a big party at the time, questioning the current position of the DP.
Basha replied that it is up to the citizens to decide whether the DP is a big or small party.
Sula continued his criticism of Basha's conviction as prime minister.
"Have a normal debate in low tones, because a small party with a loud voice doesn't work, you were a big party, with just the right voice. How are you going to become Prime Minister? Do you think you'll emerge as a big party with these elections?"
Basha expresses the opinion that everything is decided by the citizens after the Euro-Atlantic Coalition presents them with the platform and team for them to vote on.
"The citizens decide, you don't decide. You are one vote. I tell the citizens the platform and the team, then they decide for themselves," Basha said.
Talks continued regarding Lulzim Basha's relationship with former Prime Minister Berisha and the United States.
"You broke away from Berisha because you were an ardent American, while he was anti-American. Do you think these insinuations will bring you any more votes?" said Arion Sulo.
Basha underlines that he is pro-American and that his position has been clear and unchanged.
