MP Redi Muçi requested in the Assembly a reaction from the Albanian government regarding the case of Albanian citizen Baki Goxhaj, who according to him is being held hostage by Israeli authorities along with other activists who were transporting humanitarian aid to Gaza.
In his speech, Muçi said that Albania should summon the Israeli ambassador and take a public stance on the issue.
"Baki Goxhaj was taken hostage along with dozens of other activists while delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. While other countries have reacted, why are we silent?" he declared.
The MP criticized the position of Albanian institutions, asking why there is no reaction to an Albanian citizen who, according to him, is being held in "torture camps".
"Why are you silent about the fact that an Albanian citizen has been taken hostage and is being held in torture camps by the fascist minister? What would you do if an Albanian citizen were taken hostage by the Russians or Iranians?", said Muçi.
He also commented on Prime Minister Edi Rama's relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, criticizing Rama's visit to Israel.
"Are you proud that Rama went to Netanyahu's house and bowed before him, before the man accused of crimes? Do you pretend that you are protecting the interests of Albanians?", declared the MP in the Assembly.
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has reacted regarding the situation of Albanian citizen Baki Goxhaj, a participant in the "Sumud" flotilla, who has been detained by Israeli authorities along with other activists of the mission. According to the MEPJ, Goxhaj has been transferred to Israel, while the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Tel Aviv is in constant contact with the Israeli authorities to follow the case and provide information on his condition.
The ministry announces that representatives of the Albanian embassy are expected to meet with Goxhaj soon, with the aim of providing the necessary consular assistance.
Baki Goxhaj was part of the international flotilla “Sumud”, which was heading towards Gaza as part of a humanitarian mission and was stopped by Israeli authorities en route. Earlier reports in Albanian media linked his case to the intervention against the flotilla and the initial lack of information on his whereabouts.
