The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, reacted regarding the concert that Kanye West is expected to hold in Tirana on July 11, for which 4 million euros will be spent from the emergency fund.
In a statement to the media, Berisha described the use of these funds as an irresponsible act, arguing that they should only serve to cope with national emergencies, such as fires or other natural disasters.
The leader of the Democrats also claimed that the government is trying to use this activity to mitigate dissatisfaction with it. He added that ministries, institutions and schools are compiling lists of employees and students who will attend the concert, while claiming that the cost of tickets will be deducted from employees' salaries.
"Two words about the 4 million euros taken from the emergency funds of a country with great fire potential, for a singer, constitutes absolutely one of the most serious, irresponsible acts. Such a fund is used only for national emergencies. Rama has merged the reserve fund into a personal account. On May 10 and 11, 2025, he gave the entire fund to the Giro D'italia. In these moments of national hatred towards him, of anger towards him, he is trying to diffuse hostile sentiments with the concert of a famous singer. He has his own problems. I have nothing against his concert, but I will never accept that it be paid for with Albanian taxes. But he is capable of making any decision to save his skin. Every ministry, schools have made lists to invite employees and students to the concert, since the tickets have not been sold. There will be several million more, since those tickets will be kept in the employees' salaries. Edi Rama believes that by representing himself with Kanye West "will be able to calm the general hatred that emanates from the soul of Albanians," said Berisha.
