Buying equipment in Turkey, Rama puts on a show with Sinan Idrizi's bankrupt plane
While Vlora has been without a drop of water in the tap for four days, Edi Rama continues to make a show of the citizens' troubles.
Only after the people of Vlorë filled the streets did the government and the Municipality react by trying to shift the responsibility to others. The mayor of the municipality and then Edi Rama himself appeared on the screen to sell the version that “it is the fault of the DP” since 2009, because “substandard pipes” were used. No responsibility for maintenance, no accountability for why measures were not taken since the defect occurred.
But what is more serious and absurd is the fact that Edi Rama is trying to turn the crisis into a propaganda spectacle. The Prime Minister is trying to present as an achievement the fact that the equipment for repairing the water supply was brought from Turkey on an "Air Albania" plane, the company known for its failures, closely linked to businessman Sinan Idrizi, who has been mired in financial and managerial scandals for years.
What really happened? Instead of the government using more efficient routes to secure the technical parts, such as from Greece or Italy, countries much closer and with quick logistical access, Rama decided to put on a "show" with the Air Albania plane, promoting it as a "rescue operation", while the citizens of Vlora cannot wash, cook or live normally.
This is the greatest hypocrisy of the moment: while Vlora suffers from a water shortage, while children fill water bottles in the middle of neighborhoods and mothers beg for a bucket of water, the government promotes Sinan Idrizi as a hero, the man who for years has failed in every project he has touched, from football to aviation. And what's more, it also gives a symbolic role to the Turkish "big brother", thanking Erdogan for the spare parts that, according to experts, could have been obtained much more simply and quickly from neighboring countries.
Essentially, we have a situation where the government solves a crisis that it itself caused and sells it as heroism. The time for fairy tales is over. The citizens of Vlora do not need “symbolic planes” and marketing with Turkish flags and selfies of Sinan. They want water. And responsibility. And at the very least, a government that does not mock them in the midst of an urban catastrophe. /Pamphlet
