The first item on the work agenda in the Assembly is the interpellation called by the head of the parliamentary group Gazment Bardhi with Prime Minister Edi Rama, regarding toxic waste.
Gazment Bardhi asked Prime Minister Rama to account for how these hazardous wastes were allowed to be exported from the port of Durrës, describing it as a scandal.
Bardhi described Rama as the head of the hazardous waste smuggling activity.
"Rama has come to Interpelança today because as it seems with you up there, Skënderbe himself seems to him. According to the information, 2 ships with 100 containers are returning to the port of Durrës. This port has also been used before to remove dangerous waste from the country and the region to Asia, according to an American organization. According to them, these shipments are made regularly," said Bardhi.
Further, the head of the PD group added: " There were some confusing reactions from some of the responsible institutions a few days later when the news came out, including the ministry responsible for the environment, energy and infrastructure, the port of Durrës, the state police, etc. There are serious doubts that Albania has violated the Basel convention and the United Nations treaty that regulates the trade in hazardous waste. Signatory countries, among them Albania, are not allowed toxic waste from another country unless they have received prior approval from the host country.
Repeated cases raise the serious suspicion that Albania is involved in an illegal international trade in hazardous waste. This shows that we are not dealing with an isolated event but with a genuine criminal activity that includes responsibility for illegal actions or omissions of some state authorities under the Prime Minister as well as a criminal lack of supervision of the illegal activity of some entities private ."
