Edi Rama's government is facing rivalries and political maneuvers

Unlike 2021, this is the first summer after the parliamentary elections, with a visible clash behind the scenes regarding Edi Rama's new government.

Four years ago, the only one who lobbied to become a minister was Taulant Balla, whom Rama did not make part of the cabinet, postponing him until a year later to give him the Ministry of Interior. But the situation became delicate for Rama when Balla could face investigations by the Special Prosecution, following rumors about encrypted conversations that arrived from Europol.

This embarrassing situation could be used for blackmail by the secret services, so Rama dismissed him after a year, discouraging him from engaging in further political action.

Moreover, Rama undertook a maneuver to remove figures like Ditmir Bushati, bringing him closer to the leadership of the Socialist Party, and then ultimately avoiding him, showing that with typical Enverian logic, he had predetermined that some figures would leave the party.

Another rivalry that erupted was with Erion Veliaj, the mayor of Tirana. Rama had hoped that Veliaj would leave before the elections, but when that did not happen, a surprise arrest operation was carried out in February of last year, three months before the elections. This operation provoked a strong reaction from Rama, who not only attacked SPAK, but also sent political messages by using the Ministry of Justice to signal that he could control and wiretap Veliaj as his “VIP” prisoners.

This operation was more political than criminal in nature, as Veliaj was not treated like the others. Rama used the attack on the majority as an opportunity to score points, especially at the international level, where the EU and Britain asked him to stop the attacks on SPAK, while in public, he was presented as a domestic victim.

But after the elections, when the SP won its fourth mandate, attacks on Ulsi Manja, from certain circles close to the majority, erupted. Rumors that Manja could return as Minister of Justice caused strong clashes, resulting in an incident where a large group of police officers accompanied Veliaj for a medical examination, an action that usually does not happen for other prisoners.

This development of clashes within the SP indicates an internal struggle, where rivalries and political movements are increasingly deep.

It is suspected that Rama is the instigator of many of these clashes and that everything is part of a grand game to maintain control over all structures, using SPAK as a powerful tool, but also making deals with this institution's prosecutors to guarantee that he remains in power.

In this situation, Rama has sent a clear message to SPAK prosecutors, to show that "there is no other better option than him", asking them to maintain his support in the processes that are underway, such as the investigations against people close to him./ Pamphlet
