Italy's agreement with Albania on closed centers for asylum seekers could act as a deterrent to people traffickers, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in a debate on migration at the Brussels summit.
According to sources in the government of Rome, the entire reasoning of the Italian prime minister is that traffickers can no longer guarantee with certainty the final destination of the trips they organize.
At the same time, as reported by the Italian public television Rai, Meloni underlined that the main priority is to prevent the departure of irregular immigrants to the countries of the European Union.
Finally, regarding the Pact on Migration and Asylum, Georgia Meloni, according to Rai, emphasized that "there must be a balance between solidarity and a sense of responsibility" and that "as far as the external dimension is concerned, other efforts must be made with the aim of permanent cooperation with countries of transit and origin, offering incentives for legal immigration, but also fighting the activity of organized crime in the trafficking of human beings".
