DP MP, Lefter Gështenja, commenting on the situation created within DP after May 14, said that the process for the new leader should not be fast, but space should be created for real and fair competition.
In an interview for Panorama TV, he emphasized that the new president must be a competitive model in front of the majority. Sakaq added that PD needs new people and spirit to come to power and there should be no more divisions.
He added that these hasty processes leave room for manipulations, which, according to him, will lead to the collapse of the Democratic Party.
"Two meetings were organized yesterday, in the parliamentary group we talked about the organization of DP and we agreed that an awareness of the structures is needed and all involvement is required. Let there be a real opening of the party, but there are still no deadlines. The simplest cells should be selected to reach the president, if there were opportunities and the support of other parties. We demand the union of the democrats and the organization of real elections, we have had problems. Each of us must contribute to have real competition.
A faster process is required from the college of presidents, but let's not do it again, there may be a person with contributions in the race. Longer term is required, not in 30 days as it is not real competition but fake. At least there should be a race in the DP, the process should start after we are all on the ground together clarifying and working with the democrats. The result was among the weakest for 30 years. It is incomprehensible that for 2 years we have not been close to the Democrats and today we say that our time has run out. We must have a model DP, it needs people and a new spirit, otherwise we will never come to power and we will be divided.
The PD simply crumbles and will come out weaker from this process. Let's see this competition calmly, let there be transparency and competition. PD needs a man who loves the Democrats more than the chair, to end this type of model. PD is not the property of one man. PD has respected names that can lead it, that can be unifying and that can make opposition every day. These people must contribute. The process should be slow, at least 6 months. To have a deep analysis, to take people from the European right and to be a competitive model in front of Rama. For the first time in 30 years, the opposition goes to 3 mandates", he said.
