German media on Rama: Lots of show, lots of propaganda, zero substance!
The German newspaper " Taz " has openly mocked Prime Minister Edi Rama for appointing a new minister to the government cabinet who, according to it, is not a human, but a figure created by artificial intelligence.
In its article, " Taz " writes that Rama has appointed Diella to the government, a virtual minister presented in traditional Albanian clothing, whose mission will be "the fight against corruption and the preparation of Albania for EU membership by 2030."
According to German media, the Albanian opposition has called the appointment unconstitutional, arguing that the minister must have Albanian citizenship and, above all, be a human being.
" Corruption is not fought with algorithms ," ironically "Taz", adding that an AI can flag suspicious tenders, but it does not have the power to destroy the political structures that keep corruption alive.
The newspaper also recalls that Rama has often made grandiose promises that have remained on paper, such as a "mini-Vatican" for the Bektashis or banning TikTok, which never worked.
According to "Taz", Rama prefers an artificial minister for a simple reason: she does not criticize, does not make accusations, cannot appear in public with her own voice and, above all, can be turned off with the touch of a button.
The article does not spare ridicule towards the international image of the Albanian prime minister, emphasizing that despite the lack of democratic standards and increasingly authoritarian style, Rama continues to be sold as a visionary leader abroad and has even graced prestigious covers with interviews where people talk more about his height and muscles than about Albania's real problems.
In conclusion, "Taz" presents Diella as the clearest symbol of Rama's spectacular governance: lots of image, lots of propaganda, lots of show, but little substance.

Albania now has a new minister who is neither a politician, nor an Albanian citizen, nor even a human. It's Diella, a figure created by artificial intelligence, whom Prime Minister Edi Rama has appointed to his cabinet as "minister for the fight against corruption" and preparing the country for EU membership by 2030.
Presented in traditional Albanian attire and with a futuristic profile, Diella was heralded as a symbol of innovation in governance. But the opposition reacted harshly, calling the move unconstitutional: according to the law, a minister must have Albanian citizenship and, above all, be human.
Rama has justified the project as a signal of his determination in the fight against corruption, the main obstacle to European integration. In February, his party colleague and former mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, ended up in prison on corruption charges, showing that even the big fish are not untouchable. However, while Tirana is constantly being built with towers and construction projects that serve as channels for laundering money from cocaine trafficking, a virtual minister does not change reality.
An AI can flag suspicious tenders, but it cannot destroy the political and clientelistic structures that fuel corruption. It is only as reliable as the data it is fed, and in a country where institutions themselves are often part of the problem, the risk is that technology itself will become corrupted.
Edi Rama is known for his eccentric style and grandiose promises that often remain unfulfilled. He once announced a “minishtet” for the Bektashis within Albania, a project that never came to fruition. He also tried to ban TikTok, but the initiative failed. However, his PR machine works. Despite his lack of democratic standards and increasingly authoritarian leadership, Rama enjoys attention and a positive image in the international arena. Recently, he appeared on the cover of the German magazine ZEITmagazin, in an interview where attention was paid more to his height and physical strength than to the real problems of the country.
Rama has little tolerance for criticism, so perhaps the choice of a virtual minister is no coincidence. Diella cannot speak for herself, does not hold critical positions, does not accuse the prime minister, and above all, can be turned off with the push of a button. A symbol of Rama's modern governance: lots of show, lots of technology, but little substance in everyday Albanian reality.
