The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, participated today in the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit in Sofia.

"Strengthening regional unity for a stable and secure future, reflecting on 30 years of partnership and progress" was the theme of this summit, which also marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the SEECP.

In the presence of the Presidents, Prime Ministers and representatives of the governments of the member states of this process, the President of the Republic emphasized the importance of the European integration of the Western Balkans, strengthening regional security, political and economic cooperation and infrastructural connectivity and energy sustainability in the Southeastern European region.

President Begaj described the SEECP process as a driver of real progress throughout our region and a platform that continues to shape our common European future.

Alongside the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Ms. Oana-Silvia Țoiu, as part of the SEECP Presidency troika, the Head of State stated at the press conference that deepening cooperation in Southeast Europe is a necessity, it is the most effective way to improve connectivity and create better opportunities for our citizens.

"We are working hard on connectivity, especially in strategic infrastructure, Corridor VIII, Porto Romano, as well as the Adriatic-Ionian corridor," emphasized President Begaj.

He stated that regional cooperation must translate into tangible results in infrastructure, trade, mobility and opportunities for citizens, despite the diversity of SEECP members.

"What moves a country forward contributes to the stability and development of all," said President Begaj.

While listing the challenges facing our region, President Begaj confirmed Albania's commitment to regional cooperation as a necessity for stability, development, and a common European future.

"Albania remains fully committed to this path. We are advancing our reform agenda and moving forward in the EU membership process, with the objective of concluding this process within this decade," said President Begaj regarding the EU membership process, as our country has entered a crucial phase with the aim of closing the negotiation chapters within the next year.

“European integration remains the central objective”, - said the President of the Republic, while confirming that there is a common understanding in the SEECP that this process must remain credible, predictable and results-based.
The Head of State underlined that the European perspective of the Western Balkans is essential for the stability of the entire region.
At the end of the summit, the leaders adopted the Sofia Declaration, while the SEECP Presidency officially passed to Bucharest.
The Head of State expressed his support for the upcoming Romanian SEECP Presidency, with the conviction that under its leadership this process will continue to bring significant results.

During his stay in Sofia, the President of the Republic was received by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, with whom he had a very friendly meeting on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation.

At this meeting, the reforms undertaken by Albania were evaluated and Bulgaria's support for Albania's membership in the European Union was confirmed.
