The deputy of the Democratic Party, Jorida Tabaku, during the conference "Role of the Parliament in the Berlin process", said that the Assembly has an essential role in embracing EU standards.
Tabaku also stopped at the debates in the Parliament, where he said that the Assembly has a heart for the partisan debate with each other, but for vital issues such as European integration, we tend to lower our high tones and have united.
"The role of parliaments in the EU accession process is essential in two aspects, namely through the continuous exercise of its supervisory functions over the performance of the government, as well as through the possibility of ensuring a broad involvement of the opposition and other stakeholders in this key national process, given its representative function, and precisely in the legislative role that the assembly has the essential role by embracing EU standards, with the adoption of laws we not only deserve acqui, we are setting new standards!", she said .
The deputy also spoke about Kosovo and Serbia, saying that it is not impossible to restart the dialogue, and described this as an obligation for future generations.

Dear colleagues of the Integration Commissions from North Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and recently Albania, welcome to Tirana and it is a special pleasure to hold this meeting together to discuss the role of parliaments in The Integration Process and especially that of Berlin.
Today, the world and especially the region are in a new dynamic, in a new prism, which endangers quite a bit the peace built as much as possible after the last war in our region. A peace that came thanks to a process that has given a lot to Europe since they are in a battle between yesterday and tomorrow, they are in the middle of a long and tiring process, but little by little it is starting to give the first results for the citizens!
Be it from the recognition of diplomas, the agreement on Roaming fees, free movement with ID, which Mrs. Bregu spoke to us about as good works of RC, but also with the previously announced agenda at next week's summit. Fortunately, this time the summit will also focus on the Achilles heel of our region; the economy! With the right philosophy of integration before membership, with a focus on the Common Regional Market and with the economy as a promoter of regional interactions.
The path of Europe in the Western Balkans should rightfully go through, and in fact, according to me, it should have gone through the economic union earlier. An opportunity and offer that will provide not only a TPR but also a connection at the service of citizens and undoubtedly at the service of Europe that can expand foreign direct investments in our region.
We are here today to discuss what we can do more and better but certainly differently with our Parliaments and I thank Ms. Nikolla for supporting this initiative where the Albanian Parliament was the host, some of our friends would say for all the countries of the region.
Look, our Parliament, like any parliament in the region, is more interested in the partisan debate with each other. That's why I wouldn't tell you anything new that happens to us because I know it happens to you too. But, thankfully, for vital issues like European integration, we have the tendency to lower our high tones and we have united to increase the role of the assembly and for this reason we amended with 140 votes the Law on the Role of the Assembly in the integration process to increase the participation of the Parliament in this process, which I hope will be an example for other countries in the region!
The role of parliaments in the EU accession process is essential in two aspects, namely through the continuous exercise of its supervisory functions over the performance of the government, as well as through the possibility of ensuring a broad involvement of the opposition and other stakeholders in this key national process, taking into account its representative function, and precisely in the legislative role that the assembly has the essential role with the definition of EU standards, with the adoption of laws we are not only welcoming acquis, we are setting new standards!
And for this process to get out of the bureaucratic hands of the governments and its mountain of papers, I have asked for a long time to turn it into a national process. As I am convinced that this process is a real and qualitative leap for every society in the BP region. Not only for the economic benefits, but above all for the benefits and transformative power that this process has for the region and our societies.
This process is an investment for the future for us and for the citizens of our countries. Therefore, the European Affairs Commission in Albania started a few months ago the sessions and hearings to inform the MPs controlled/monitor the government with the first one where Mrs. Bregu and the deputy. KM for infrastructural and digital projects within the Berlin Process.
Then continuing with special sessions for professional qualifications, recognition of diplomas and accreditations, up to what happened with access to movement with ID cards and after the sum next week we will continue with the regional market with the economy and finance as the best way to push European standards in Albanian businesses, and this is precisely the role that our parliaments can play.
At the end of the day, each of the MPs should ask themselves whether parliamentary diplomacy, the parliament as a debate platform, the parliament as an arena for discussions can break the taboo of cooperation across borders! Is Europe bigger, safer, stronger after conflicts in the region! Is there a place for terrorism when diplomacy can break stronger walls!
Perhaps, it is up to parliaments to be the voice of reason even where the voice of ego and conflict wants to prevail. In an effort to build a future for our children not in a powder keg, as the Balkans have gotten a bad name, but in a room of the big European house.
To build Europe in the Western Balkans we will have to sacrifice a little of our ego that does not require cooperation. Let go of demands that deny reality and look to the future without hanging on to the ghosts of the past.
Therefore, it is not impossible that Kosovo and Serbia today restart a dialogue with the aim of solving the problems and not creating an alibi to leave the table. This is an obligation we owe to future generations for a region in the EU, as it should be, not a pawn of yesterday as it unfortunately still is today!
