Why did Edi Rama clash with Alexis Tsipras? The game beyond Athens!
Edi Rama and Alexis Tsipras /

By turning the investment into a personal cause, Rama is giving his opponents a political weapon, while Germany and its allies appear to be testing the waters for the final phase of the clash with the Albanian Prime Minister...

Edi Rama is politically exploiting the protests over Zvërnec, causing great damage to the very important investment project there.

If the entire situation had been managed without aggressive behavior and without the prime minister pulling the strings, the issue would not have become a major political problem.

At the moment when the main opposition, that of Sali Berisha, took a clear stance, declaring that it supported the investment, the majority should have done the same and the situation would have flowed normally.

But it was Edi Rama himself who added fuel to the fire from the beginning, turning the issue into a cause of the type: either with me or against the investment.

A well-thought-out move, to take on the role of victim and create a cause that he can use until the fall.

A cause that he has strongly embraced, taking advantage of the uproar that was created in Greece against the investment in Zvërnec.

This noise has not come like a cloud in the open sky. Public opinion in Greece, both the media and politics, are sensitive whenever it comes to large investments in Albania, clearly for reasons of competition.

However, the clash with Alexis Tsipras, the former left-wing Greek prime minister, who is now building a new political formation with a Europeanist profile, seemed strange.

Because the biggest noise was not made by circles close to Tsipras, but by the media and circles close to Kyriakos Mitsotakis' New Democracy.

But the situation seems more complicated than that.

Rama used the debate with Tsipras to send a message to those who support him or share the same political line with him.

Namely, Friedrich Merz's Germans, who clearly seem to be supporting opposition factors in Albania, with the aim of accelerating political change.

The significant protests, where a large number of young people gathered in a short time, are nothing more than a political test to see if it is possible for a larger movement to erupt in Albania.

A movement that is supported mainly by new political factors, who are not affiliated with either the DP or the SP.

It seems that the Germans have carefully prepared this "orange revolution" for Edi Rama, so that at the Tivat summit all the leaders of the EU and the Western Balkans can deal with it.

Not just to ruffle feathers, but because it seems we have entered a more advanced phase.

A phase where the plan for Edi Rama's political departure can be more clearly activated.

Who, precisely to hold on to his power, is very carefully using his connections and relationships with the Trump family. Connections that, in the way they are being used, risk creating serious problems for Albania.

If Democrats win the US midterm elections, they will likely use the Trump family's businesses as an argument to raise allegations of conflict of interest.

And thus Albania risks becoming a sandwich squeezed between major international games, which will involve not only Americans, but also European leaders who can't wait to clash with Donald Trump.

If the relationship with the Trump family and their investments in Albania were not treated as a personal matter by Edi Rama to maintain his power, the noise would be much smaller.

It was no coincidence that Rama, in the joint conference with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, declared in code that his departure could bring unrest.

Although he was facing Antonio Costa, in reality he was communicating with Friedrich Merz.

He was sending her a message.

Or more precisely, he was trying to negotiate a ceasefire.

In all likelihood, in Tivat we will have the second act of this clash, which now seems to be much more than a political fight.

It seems to be part of a larger operation against the Balkan wrestling autocrats./ Pamphlet
