Prime Minister Rama has called on socialists not to use their contribution to the Socialist Party to seek personal favors or benefits for family members, emphasizing that political engagement should not become a tool for individual interests.
During a speech given at the event for the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Party in Tirana, Rama openly criticized those who seek rewards or interference in the name of the work done for the party.
"I want to say one thing to all those socialists who, in the name of the work they do, ask for favors, that for what they have done, the party should fix their son-in-law at work. Which hero of the National Liberation War would ask for this favor in the name of his blood?" said Rama.
The Prime Minister added that using political contributions for family benefits constitutes behavior that contradicts the values on which the political force he leads is built.
"Every hero and martyr who is there in the cemetery, every retired veteran who is in the other world today, feels humiliated by the use of contributions to arrange for the groom," he said.
In an attempt to address dissatisfaction within the socialist ranks, Edi Rama stated that every socialist may have reason to complain about the party, but stressed that the SP should not be used for "scams" or for arranging relatives in the administration.
"Anyone who is a socialist has 1001 reasons to say 'let's destroy the party', but there is one big reason to be proud, because the Socialist Party is on that list as a contributor," Rama declared.
According to him, the Socialist Party remains one of the main contributors to the national issue and the most important development processes of the country, describing this as a sufficient reason for pride for every member and supporter of it.
