'The goal was to keep me out of the elections'/ Salianji: Fatmir

Former Democratic Party MP Ervis Salianji, who served a 9-month political sentence for the "Babale" case, has returned to the public political scene after his release.

He was invited to the show "Çim Peka Live" on Syri TV, where he exploded with accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama and former Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj, indicating that the case against him was politically fabricated.

"It is the first time that Edi Rama has spoken publicly about a legal issue. He told me three times in parliament: 'You will see'. How did he know? One day I didn't even know that I was in court, Edi Rama knew, he told me in parliament," declared Salianji.

He said that Rama exerted influence before, during and after the trial. According to him, everything was deliberately orchestrated to harm him politically.

"Fatmir Xhafaj is the main beneficiary and has instigated this issue. He did not resign until the file against me was closed. He remained minister until he used everyone - the general director, the directors of Fier, the deputy directors - and only after he thought he had closed the issue, did he resign," the former MP stressed.

Salianji added that it was not the prosecution that investigated his case, but acted on the basis of a report from a trafficker. "I was imprisoned because of a report from a trafficker. There is no investigation by the prosecution - the report was made by the trafficker," he said.

Commenting on the sentence and the ban on holding public office for five years, Salianji stressed that the goal was to keep him out of the electoral race. "They gave me a year in prison so they could have time to stop me from running, to remove my mandate because of the finality of the decision. It was all political, to keep me out of the elections. There were other dimensions, as every autocrat who is afraid all the time thinks," he said.

Salianji further described the decision as "a pointless punishment," and emphasized that he remains an active actor on the ground, despite efforts to exclude him from political life.
